LGBTQ+ therapy therapist mental health

Hi, welcome to a new junction

Therapy can sometimes feel unknown and scary. Will my therapist ‘get it’? Will I have to explain lots of things to them? Will I be able to fully open up?

We know that being LGBTQ+ brings unique experiences and challenges that can contribute to poorer mental health and wellbeing. This may include navigation of the ‘coming out’ process, relationships, bullying/prejudice, shame, loneliness and family difficulties. For those that are transgender, non-binary, or otherwise gender diverse, there may be experiences of gender dysphoria, adjustment, rejection or identity to manage too. Such experiences can be compounded further by LGBTQ+ culture, or if someone is religious, or neurodiverse, or disabled, for example.

What if I’m not from the LGBTQ+ community?

That’s OK! Although we predominantly work with LGBTQ+ people and other people with marginalised identities, our compassionate and professional approach extends to everyone needing specialist mental health and psychological care.

All of our clinicians have the knowledge and experience needed to work with you. They will prioritise making you feel safe and validated, and consider how the various facets of your identity interact, with the aim of working towards an understanding of what is going on for you, and how to work towards your therapy goals.

We can work with people from across the UK through online or telephone therapy. If you prefer face to face appointments, we can currently offer this in Doncaster (South Yorkshire), Canterbury (Kent) and Winchester (Hampshire). Please do get in touch if you would like a face to face appointment elsewhere, and we will see if we can match you to an appropriate clinician.
